The Worst Possible Thing

The Jews then gathered around Him, and were saying to Him, “How long will You keep us in suspense? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.”

Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe; the works that I do in My Father’s name, these testify of Me. “But you do not believe because you are not of My sheep.  My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.

My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. “I and the Father are one.” John 10:24-30

Have you ever wondered …
What is the worst possible thing you can ever do?

There are many things we could do that would bring horrible results. Every day we have the opportunity to make decisions that could cause us to lose everything. You could lie, cheat, steal, or kill … but there is much worse. You could lose all your money, end up in jail, lose your career, the respect of others, and you could lose your family and friends. Just yesterday, I read of a California man who was killed when he decided to move to Syria and join the ISIS Islamic terrorists. How could an American choose to be so foolish, and to turn to such evil?

But there is still a much worse thing that you can do.

There is one choice that is the absolute worst possible thing anyone can do throughout their entire life. In the scripture above, Jesus clearly answered the question of the Jewish religious leaders when He said: “I and the Father are one.” John 10:30

“The Jews picked up stones again to stone Him. Jesus answered them, “I showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me?” The Jews answered Him, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy; and because You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God.” John 10:31-33. The religious leaders rejected Jesus and because He said; “I and the Father are one” … they plotted to have Him killed and eventually brought Jesus to Pilate to be crucified.

There you have it my friends. The worst thing you can ever do is not believe in Jesus Christ and then die before you come to believe his claims to be God. My teacher refers to this as the unpardonable sin. The consequences of all other sins are forgiven when we believe Jesus Christ and His promises are the eternal Truth. This fact was further clarified here: “He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." John 3:18.

If this teaching is not true, none is the better for it. But what hope is there for those who reject Christ only to learn that this is the eternal Truth? It is wise for all of us to deeply consider the teachings of Jesus, and His purpose and meaning for each of us.

For all of those who reject Jesus and do not believe that He and the Creator God are one and the same, this is not good news. This Truth also applies to seemingly wonderful and good people who just want to do what they want to do. This claim is true for all who worship other religions and belief systems, or other gods. For those who do not believe in Jesus Christ and his free gift of eternal life through faith in Him. “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23

I realize that this is not politically correct. But when we are talking about someone spending eternity in heaven or hell … hurting someone’s feelings, tolerance, and political correctness somehow lose their value. We all have freedom of choice but in this case, the wrong choice has forever consequences.

So you might say …
“I’m saved … and I believe that Jesus Christ is God."
Now, what is the worst thing I can do?

As a Christian, anything you do that leads those in your circle of influence away from God’s free gift of Grace through Jesus Christ is the worst thing you can do. The example we set for others should be our top priority.

"It is good neither to eat meat, nor to drink wine, nor anything by which your brother stumbles, or is offended, or is made weak." Romans: 14:21

Is this post getting heavy for you? A Christian named Greg once told me that he was not concerned about the do’s and don’ts of the Bible. He had been taught by the person who led him to Christ that he only needed to believe in Jesus and he would be saved. That is all that mattered to him. Question: who is the god of Greg’s belief system? Is he truly a Christian believer in Jesus Christ?

I am convinced and hope and pray that Greg is a Christian … in spite of his self-centeredness. A carnal believer is clearly far better off than going to hell for eternity. But God is righteous and just and has made it clear that he has given us a mission to be used by Him to reconcile others to Him so that they can also have eternal life as well.

To disregard the promises and changes he has planned for us here and now will surely bring severe consequences. "Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?  If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are." 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 When a person believes that Jesus is the Creator of the universe, knows all things, and is all powerful; and then chooses to disregard His teachings and His Truth … what could be a more foolish thing to do in the face of this verse?

Here’s is how this logic plays out … rather than be an ambassador for Christ with a ministry of reconciliation; just be the worst kind of hypocrite, one that leads others away from the Savior and His Gospel of eternal salvation and forgiveness. Lead others to Believe in Christ but go on living for themselves, here and now. Lead others like Greg to follow this foolishness. If we would follow Greg’s thinking to its end, is there anything that you or I could not freely do? You name it, the answer is no. How can the love of Christ control him, and help guide others to believe in Christ through him when his life projects the opposite of the teachings of Christ?

Actress Marilyn Monroe was challenged by Billy Graham when he was visiting one of her shows. He told Marilyn that the Spirit of God had sent him to talk with her. After hearing what the Preacher had to say; Marilyn replied: “I don't need your Jesus.”

Unfortunately for Marilyn Monroe, her reply was the absolute worst thing she could ever say or do. A week later, Marilyn Monroe was found dead in her apartment, an apparent suicide. Her rejection of Christ and His free gift of eternal life was far worse than ending her life.

Why do some who appear to have everything decide to walk down a hopeless path to nowhere? For those who choose to reject the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ, there is no meaning or purpose in life and no hope. All of the fame and success the world has to offer means NOTHING.

What about you?

Will you believe in Jesus right now; and have hope, meaning, and purpose in your life forever? Pray to Jesus and ask for his forgiveness and eternal salvation. Believe in Jesus Christ and you will be saved.

But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; for you once were NOT A PEOPLE, but now you are THE PEOPLE OF GOD; you had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, but now you have RECEIVED MERCY. 1 Peter 2:9-10

God Bless you my friends, Bob
